Sharing Ideas with the World

I do a lot of media interviews in newspapers, magazines, radio, television and online. As a scholar I tend towards introversion, but I believe in sharing the ideas we discover at university with the public. Those working in the media are experts at sharing information, so I enjoy trying to learn from them to be more effective at communicating. In my experience, people in the media are very understanding with those - like me - who are unfamiliar with speaking to large audiences. For example, during a television segment I kicked over my metal water bottle causing a huge crash during a live broadcast of the weather. I was mortified, but the meteorologist took it all in stride. Fortunately, we have a strong media group at the University of Calgary who are helping me learn how to communicate...or at least not to embarrass myself while doing so!
